What is Dry Cleaning?

Drycleaning is the process by which soils and stains are removed from fabric by the use of solvents, not water.

The process of drycleaning dates back to the 1800’s when a petroleum type fluid was accidentally spilled on a piece of fabric that had greasy stains. The fluid quickly evaporated and left the area clean where the fluid had spilled.

The dry cleaners firm of "Jolly Belin" opened in Paris, France in 1825 and is reported to be the first dry cleaning firm in existence.

Dry cleaning arrived in Australia in 1913 and has been continuously modernised and improved over the years. Dry cleaning stores are still one of the few service professions in Brisbane or anywhere in the world that require a great deal of skill and hands on experience.

Fashion and fabrics are constantly evolving and we are continuously updating our methods and processes to ensure you receive the best care possible for your garments and household items.

THE BENEFITS OF DRYCLEANING YOUR CLOTHES:

Your clothes last longer. Regular dry cleaning can actually extend the life of your clothes.

Dirt and pollutants that are in the air and on your clothes act as an abrasive and can deteriorate the fibres of your clothes. By drycleaning them regularly you are protecting your investment.

You look better and you feel better.

Your clothing is an expression of your image and personality. When you look good you feel better and more confident.

Additionally, regular cleaning can help you breath easier and reduce allergic reaction as it removes pollutants, dust mites, cigarette smoke and car exhaust that get lodged in your clothes.

Drycleaning protects your garments colour, brightness and softness as well as being gentler than other cleaning methods.

THE DRY CLEANING PROCESS:

Step 1. Identification and inspection – When you leave your garments for cleaning they are inspected and identified with a tag that stays with the garment until it is returned to you.

It is particularly helpful if you know the source of a stain and can point it out to our staff when you bring your garments in for cleaning.

Step 2. Spotting and stain removal – Our trained Drycleaner skillfully removes spots and stains using specialised solutions.

Step 3. Sorting – Garments are sorted for cleaning by category and colour and consideration to the manufacturers recommended Care Label instructions.

Step 4. Drycleaning – Garments are now cleaned using the correct solvent to remove dirt and grease safely from all garments including the most delicate and sensitive fabrics.

Step 5. Drying – Garments are dried using temperatures appropriate to the type of garment in conjunction with the manufacturers recommended Care Label instructions.

Step 6. Pressing and Finishing – Garments are steam formed to restore body and shape and to remove wrinkles and pressed to give those crisp, clear creases and pleats that signify a dry cleaned garment.

Step 7. Final inspection and Packaging – Garments are given a final inspection then prepared for your collection.
